The Higher Education Commission (HEC) said on Wednesday that it was an issue for universities to choose whether they needed to lead face to face or online exams, days after protests held quick against exams on campus.

In a long thread on Twitter, HEC said it had noticed student concerns related to the live examination.

“Student anxiety was carefully reviewed in consultation with deputy prime ministers of all states and regions, given the difficulties posed by the pandemic and the opening of the university from February 1, 2021.” Stated HEC.

“In this mode, universities additionally need to utilize Turnitin (plagiarism software) to check the similarity file with the web and reactions from different understudies,” he added, adding that educational institutions should take Viva or oral exams if necessary.

Further, viva/oral exam may be integrated in the assessment where necessary.

In addition, HEC cautioned the university that on-campus testing must be directed on the off chance that it is carefully consistent with all COVID-19 conventions. The university may have to hold a fourteen-day make-up class.

“An assessment of all courses requiring psychomotor abilities, for example, medication and designing, and subjects including laboratory/studio work, should be led nearby,” it said.

All students in a single course will be tested online or on the same model on campus.

Since March 2020, the HEC said, it has been checking the pandemic circumstance and working with universities to limit learning interruptions and proceed with online education with quality protections.

The HEC Guidance on Online Readiness (#5) and Assessments and Examinations (#6) are available on HEC website and provide the requirements and minimum standards to be observed by universities.
